As mentioned in the video, I really struggle to keep my love for Herend Porcelain in check. I think it is absolutely spectacular how these painters do their jobs and the magic they create. I’m in awe of their passion, patience (!) and commitment.
There are quite a few painters there whose parents and even grandparents worked as master painters for Herend, so the tradition is passed down from generation to generation. Isn’t giving the example of loving your job a beautiful heritage to your children? I think it is.
As you may have guessed, I have been there countless times, and I still can’t get enough of it. The atmosphere, the ladies there, the fine work, OMG. If you wish, we can start with a workshop where we’ll be taught how to make a typical Herend rose, or, if you wish, a painter can help us paint one of the popular patterns.
FAMOUS HEREND FANS
Speaking of which, do you know which Herend fan pattern is the most famous and easily the most popular? The so called Victoria, named after Queen Victoria of England. Apparently Queen Elizabeth II still uses them.
Of course, the rose of England, Lady Diana was an avid collector, too. She loved the so-called fish scale pattern that is also very popular in the States. Usually you’ll see this pattern on animal figures, but not exclusively.
Remaining with the royal family: we made the Royal Garden pattern to commemorate the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton. The same pattern was used for his younger brother Prince Harry’s wedding to Meghan Markle, although with different colours.
If you wish to find out more about a truly Hungarian speciality that can be found in places ranging from the White House to the palaces of the Saudi royal family, then I highly recommend visiting the Herend factory. You won’t regret it.
After a delicious meal at the Herend company’s restaurant (open from Tuesdays to Sundays), we’ll head over to our most precious lake, a place that is part of the soul of all Hungarians. As a landlocked country, Lake Balaton is the Hungarian seaside. When you see how vast it is, you’ll understand why. Ask anyone from any part of Hungary what memories they have attached to this lake, and I’ll bet you they’ll be wonderful and very emotional. For many Hungarians, no summer holiday was or is complete without a trip to Lake Balaton.
BOAT TRIP
You know, during the 40 years of communism, Lake Balaton was pretty much the only place where we could go on holiday, so there isn’t one of us who wouldn’t have very powerful childhood memories about it.
During our one-hour long boat trip, you’ll be surprised to see that it’s actually a giant lake. It’s so big, you’ll think you are on the sea.
If you’re interested in wine, I’ll be more than happy to tell you what this lake has to do with our famous wines.
You can count on a wonderful trip in the countryside of around 9-10 hours. Usually on our way back clients simply fall asleep and have sweet dreams of Herend porcelain and the Hungarian sea.
