SISI & HORSE RANCH IN HUNGARIAN: GÖDÖLLŐ ROYAL CASTLE & LÁZÁR EQUESTRIAN PARK

THE UNEXPECTED EMPRESS

Elisabeth, the Empress of Austria, Sisi, the Queen of Hungary. Whichever name you use, they all refer to the same person.

We truly loved this Queen, our beloved Sisi, who played a very important role in Hungarian history. She found a place in the hearts of the nobles as well as the peasants.

You know, originally she wasn’t destined to become the empress. That title should’ve been bestowed upon her elder sister, Helena. But life is unpredictable. When Franz Josheph saw Sisi, it was love at first sight, and therefore refused to marry Helena.

The future emperor refused to bend to his mother, Sophia’s will, and insisted he would marry Sisi or no one.

Although their love story wasn’t the fairy-tale love story young girls dream of, Franz Joseph still declared Sisi to be the true love of his life to his dying day.

WEDDING GIFT – SISI’S HOUSE OF REFUGE

Only Franz Joseph was supposed to wear a crown (not exactly my favourite person from our history) but we loved Sisi so much that we finally crowned her, too. The coronation ceremony took place in our Matthias Church that we will hopefully visit together.

As a coronation gift the couple were given a castle just outside Budapest. It wasn’t exactly a Schönbrunn or Versailles-size palace, but this was still one of Sisi’s favourite places.

She often said: ‘In Vienna I am an empress. In Buda I am a Queen. And in that palace, I am a mother.’ There, she could spend as much time with her children as she wanted without being under the watchful eye of her mother-in-law, ladies in waiting or even Spanish etiquette. She was just free.

We’ll visit this wonderful palace (Gödöllői Kastély in Hungarian). You’ll be amazed to find out what this palace witnessed during WW1 and WW2. I’ll tell you all about it.

RUMOURS

Apart from the political and historical facts, I can give you the juicy gossip too.

The time when Franz Joseph reigned was a very difficult period for the Habsburg dynasty, with ongoing wars in different places.

He was a hard worker anyway, so every day he woke up at a time that my alarm clock doesn’t even know (4 a.m. that is). He worked till late so he didn’t really get the chance to spend much time with his beautiful wife, Elisabeth. That is why he had a life-size painting of her in his office that we’ll also get to see.

We all know what happens to lonely, heart-broken ladies who are abandoned by their husbands. In short, there were loads of rumours about Sisi. And her husband too. And as you know, a large part of gossip is often based on truth.

If the weather is good, we can walk in the garden up to her former stable. Sisi was well ahead of her time in many ways. For example, she rode horses, and this was unimaginalbe for ladies back in those days.

OUR PRIDE: THE WORLD CHAMPION BROTHERS

10 in horse carriage racing

We will send a goodbye kiss to Sisi and head to the equestrian park named after our multiple world champions in horse carriage racing, the Lázár brothers. As mentioned in my video, this is a spot where we’ll have a wonderful time, 100% guaranteed.

THRILLING HORSE SHOW

First we’ll be taken to the nearby valley by horse drawn carriages. What could be more romantic? No matter the time of the year, it is a spectacular trip.

Horses and cows grazing on the side of the valley, sunshine, the smell of the different trees, flowers and the grass. It’s an idyllic setting, for sure, and one you’ll never forget. It might even become your ‘happy place’.

After a walk around their museum where some of their trophies are on display and a few of their former world champion horses are stabled, we’ll head to the highlight of the programme there: the 40-minute horse show where you’ll learn what a great equine culture we used to have  and why people in Europe used to say: May the Lord save us from the arrows of Hungarians!

Large variety of Hungarian food in a peasant way

AUTHENTIC HUNGARIAN FOOD, GREAT RESTAURANT

After all that country fresh air, we’ll have worked up quite an appetite, so we’ll head to their authentic, intimate restaurant where we’ll be served delicious, home-made style Hungarian dishes while a great gypsy band serenades us with traditional, folk songs.

Or if you prefer a good old Elvis Presley song, they can play that, too. You’ll experience how much music is in their blood.

I can guarantee you’ll love this Sisi & horse ranch programme if you like combining culture and a fun time with delicious Hungarian food.
